The United States has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court, saying it wants to prevent the tribunal from pursuing cases against American citizens.  Based in The Hague, in the Netherlands, the ICC investigates and prosecutes individuals accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

The sanctions could affect the court’s access to essential services, including banking and technology, and raise questions about how it can continue its work.
