South Africa's Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says the decision by the United States (US) government to confer refugee status to a group of Afrikaaner South Africans is misinformed as they do not fit the definition of refugees as cited in the 1951 refugee convention and its 1967 protocol.
49 Afrikaaners arrived in the US this week after President Donald Trump offered them refugee status. Ntshavheni was briefing the media in the country's capital Pretoria, yesterday on various country issues.
Sisi Segalo attended the briefing and has more on the story.
