UN backs accurate world maps as debate grows over Africa’s size and global representation
The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly backed a resolution encouraging countries, schools and institutions to use world maps that more accurately reflect the true size of continents. The move challenges the long-used Mercator projection, which makes landmasses closer to the poles appear much larger, while Africa appears significantly smaller than its actual size. The debate is also part of a wider conversation about how Africa is represented and perceived around the world. And one of the people who has been pushing that conversation through art and advocacy is Thebe Ikalafeng, Founder and Chairprrson of Brand Africa. Thebe, good morning and welcome to Channel Africa
