The University of Namibia in partnership with the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia have launched three short courses on climate change to mitigate the effects in the country and to get citizens involved in solving climate change.

 The University says the three-week course will focus on finance, the fundamentals of climate change and the development and management of climate change projects.

According to Professor Guy Midgley from the University of Stellenbosch, in South Africa, Africa is said to be among the most badly affected continents in the world.

The University of Namibia has  launched three short courses on climate change

In a response to the deteriorating situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo following the resurgence of the March 23 Movement (M23) rebel group, Southern African Development Community - SADC deployed a military force, led by the South African military, to stabilise the region in December 2023.

According to the UN, over 6 million have been displaced in the DRC as a result of the armed conflict.

The deployment followed the withdrawal of Monusco - the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the DRC, after 20 years since it was sent to the country. Over 2,900 South Africa's soldiers are part of the Mission, however, concerns have been raised regarding the vulnerability of the South African army currently deployed in the DRC.

To discuss further is National Secretary for the South African National Defence Union (SANDU), Adv Pikkie Greeff and Defence analyst Helmoed Heitman.

Concerns raised over availability of resources for SANDF soldiers deployed in DRC

Accounting firm, KPMG International, is forecasting global growth will slow from the 2-point-7 percent 2023 pace to 2-point-5 percent in 2024 and rebound to 2-point-7 percent next year.

Inflation is expected to continue to cool, but in many countries the price pressure will take longer to unwind than it took to emerge.

The latest predictions in KPMG's Q2 2024 Global Economic Outlook reflect the current elevated geopolitical uncertainty, with nearly half of the world's population already voting or heading to the polls in 2024.

KPMG International forecasts a slowing of global growth in 2024

Independent Economist Bonke Dumisa has welcomed the reappointment of South Africa's Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to the new Government of National Unity (GNU) unveiled by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to Bonke, the establishment of a GNU also offers reassurance to investors who were worried about the nature of government that would emerge after the May elections.

Dumisa believes that understanding the potential consequences of remaining on the Financial Action Task Force's grey list for an extended period could shed light on how it affects investor confidence, foreign direct investment, and overall economic stability.
