Sub-Saharan Africa has been ranked as the world's second least peaceful region, just after the Middle East and North Africa, according to the 2024 Global Peace Index (GPI) by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). The region is home to three of the ten least peaceful countries globally and recorded a 0.89% decline in its average peace score over the past year. New Conflicts and Economic Strain Driving Next Wave of Terrorism, Report Warns

Several civil society organisations led by the Aids Healthcare Foundation gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa, to call on the European Union( EU) to stop blocking Health Equity ahead of the final negotiations of the World Health Organisation Pandemic Treaty. They say the treaty cannot move forward until the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing ( PABS) Annex is finalized.   The Annex determines how pathogen samples are shared and whether all countries benefit from vaccines.
