As South Africans roll up their sleeves for Mandela Day today, a Johannesburg-based child and youth care centre is urging citizens to rethink how they give back. Oasis Haven says the annual day of service has the potential to drive real change - but only if support meets actual needs. The centre highlights that while many volunteers donate goods or time, the biggest gap remains funding for operational costs. They believe Mandela Day can be more than symbolic, if contributions are aligned with what non-profits genuinely require to sustain their work. To speak to us more about this, we are joined by Qondani Tshuma, Fundraiser at Oasis Haven.
