In South Africa, the Financial Intelligence Centre is warning that thousands of businesses could face financial penalties for failing to meet mandatory anti-money laundering compliance requirements. At the same time, the country has introduced new rules requiring travellers carrying more than the equivalent of 100,000 South African rand in cash or other specified negotiable instruments across its borders to declare them, bringing its regime closer to international standards.
