The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ,  is calling on authorities in Nigeria to immediately release journalist Daniel Ojukwu and stop intimidating and arresting members of the press who investigate the government's spending of public funds.

South Africa's Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Maroopeoni Ramokgopa has handed over the 30 Years of Democracy Review Report to president Ramaphosa - at the presidential guest house in the capital Pretoria. The report highlights important lessons in the evolution of democracy.

Over the last 30 years, the country has attained a stable democracy, with strong institutions and a considerable global influence amid a myriad of challenges.

SA’s 30 Years of Democracy Review Report released

Mozambique's ruling party , Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), has announced Daniel Francisco Chapo, a member of its Central Committee, as the party's candidate for the country's upcoming  presidential elections to be held in October.

Chapo garnered  94% of the votes cast in a second round of balloting at the three-day meeting of its central committee held near the country's capital Maputo. Chapo who has never served in the national cabinet is a law graduate and former radio announcer who has also served as governor of the central Inhambane province in 2016.
