The Centre for Development & Enterprise (CDE) recently released a series of reports on the 'silent crisis' of South Africa's education system, highlighting some of the major reforms needed.

Commenting on these reports, Dr Corrin Varady, CEO of ed-tech platform IDEA, says that South Africa is in a downward spiral of problem identification rather than remediation.

With the report titled 'South Africa's failing education system', calling attention to poor education outcomes such as seventy-eight percent of Grade 4 learners being unable to read for meaning'.

The war in South Sudan might be far from over... the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission in the country has warned that there was limited progress in implementing Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan. But the United Nations says South Sudan is headed towards a potential return to full-scale civil war, despite a 2018 peace deal.
