Section 6(1) of Citizenship Act of 1995 unconstitutional: Court

The Constitutional Court has ruled that Section 6(1) of the South African Citizenship Act of 1995 is unconstitutional and must be scrapped.

The section stipulates that South Africans automatically lose their citizenship if they voluntarily acquire another nationality, unless they apply for and receive permission to retain it from the Minister of Home Affairs.

Now to discuss this further Peter Ndoro spoke to Ludré Stevens, Leader of Democratic Alliance Abroad- DA is a political party in South Africa and member of the government of national unity.

Ludre', holds dual citizenship in the UK and South Africa and was personally involved in the retention process at the heart of this case..
