Over two hundred doctors at Maputo Central Hospital in Mozambique began an indefinite strike on Sunday, June 1st, suspending all duties beyond their regular shifts. The protest, driven by more than a year of unpaid overtime, affects night shifts and weekend services. According to local media, the striking doctors, who spoke anonymously due to fear of retaliation, say the situation has dragged on for over two years, leading to extreme exhaustion. They also cite poor working conditions, especially in the emergency department. To further discuss this story, Peter Ndoro spoke to Channel Africa correspondent in Mozambique, Milton Maluluque.

An Al Qaeda-linked militant group, Jama'a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM), claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a military base in Mali on Sunday, killing over 30 soldiers. The group also targeted a military airstrip and Russian mercenaries in Timbuktu on Monday, causing heavy gunfire and explosions. Since early May, JNIM has reportedly killed over 400 soldiers across Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Despite Russian support, regional forces struggle to contain the violence. Mali-based analyst Dr. Zoumara Diarra joins us to discuss the implications of this escalation.
