The private sector in South Africa is still lacking behind in terms of gender equality especially when it comes to the representation of vulnerable groups such as women and persons with disability in leadership positions.  

This is according to the country's Commission for Gender Equality (CGE).  

The commission says there is a need for a shift in legislation to ensure that the private sector is not only fined but some directors who are against transformation are disqualified.  

The commission is hosting a two-day conference which begun on Wednesday to evaluate the strides made and challenges which hinder the attainment of gender equality in South Africa.
