South Africa's government is stepping up support for exporters after the United States imposed a steep 30% tariff on key South African goods, a move that has sparked concern across sectors including wine, citrus, and manufacturing.

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition has now launched an Export Support Desk to help affected industries navigate the crisis.

The tariff hike, announced by US President Donald Trump, could put thousands of local jobs at risk and has strained trade ties between Pretoria and Washington.

Despite high level talks and proposed concessions, the tariffs have taken effect, prompting South Africa to look inward and outward for solutions.
