SA rand fluctuates against the US dollar amid early results from the US elections

View descriptionShare

The South African rand is currently experiencing fluctuations against the US dollar amid early results from the US elections.

As of the latest data, the USD/ZAR rate is approximately 17.69, showing a slight increase since yesterday.

The rand has been relatively stable in recent days but has experienced minor volatility this week, with rates hovering between 17.37 and 17.74 ZAR per USD.

James Turp, Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at Sanlam Investments, warns that a Republican clean sweep could bring heightened uncertainty, impacting global trade and sentiment towards emerging markets like South Africa.

While bonds have remained steady, they're expected to react to election outcomes.

For more insights on this, Peter Ndoro spoke to James Turp.
