Mining Affected Communities United in Action ( MACUA) have handed over their submissions to the South African Human Rights Commission( SAHRC) as part of its National Inquiry into Artisanal Mining.
Macua says their input exposes the Stilfontein Massacre and the state's role in the crisis at Shaft 11, where artisanal miners were trapped underground, denied humanitarian aid, and left to die. The decision by the SAHRC to institute a National Inquiry was necessitated by the magnitude of what transpired in Stilfontein.
To talk to us further on the issue is Meshack Mbangula the National Co-ordinator of Macua.
