'SA mothers face hidden crisis of postpartum suicide'

As the world marked suicide prevention day on Wednesday, September 10, South African (SA) paternal mental health advocate, Kim Vermaak , says it's crucial to shed light on the silent suffering of mothers and the urgent need for support.

Globally, suicide is the leading cause of direct maternal deaths between six weeks and 12 months postpartum,  responsible for 39% of such deaths. SA also observes Suicide Prevention Month in September.
