South Africa (SA) has been singled out as one of the bright spots in the latest Global State of Democracy Report by International IDEA.

While more than a third of African countries have seen democratic setbacks in recent years - from delayed elections in West Africa, to shrinking press freedoms, South Africa and Botswana are highlighted as countries where credible elections have strengthened institutions.
