The Constitutional Court has ruled that Section 6(1) of the South African Citizenship Act of 1995 is unconstitutional and must be scrapped. The section stipulates that South Africans automatically lose their citizenship if they voluntarily acquire another nationality, unless they apply for and receive permission to retain it from the Minister of Home Affairs.

To discuss this further, Peter Ndoro spoke to Ludré Stevens, Leader of the Democratic Alliance Abroad. The DA is a political party in South Africa and a member of the government of national unity. Ludré, who holds dual citizenship in the UK and South Africa, was personally involved in the retention process at the heart of this case.
