Rich countries have broken their climate finance promises to a key grouping of eight highly vulnerable African nations. Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda, collectively known as the IGAD region, have together received, on average, $1.7 billion annually between 2013 and 2022 in grant equivalents, which reflects the true value of climate support after interest and debt repayments.
This is according to a new report released today by Oxfam and IGAD ahead of the Second African Climate Summit (ACS2), scheduled to take place next week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
David Abudho, Oxfam in Africa Climate Lead, is on the line to discuss this further.
