Professor Olive Shisana's journey has taken her from a rural village in South Africa, through exile during apartheid, to the forefront of efforts to rebuild the country's health system, combat HIV/AIDS, strengthen Africa's public health institutions, and advance global health equity during the COVID-19 pandemic. She reflects on that extraordinary journey in her autobiography, Seeing Through the Storm: Leading Through Crisis, which will be launched on 9 August. Zambia heads to a general election on 13 August to vote for a president, members of the national assembly, councillors and council chairs. The incumbent president Hakainde Hichilema is seeking a second term in office. 14 candidates have lined up to challenge him.  Political commentators say - the next week's vote in Zambia is a two-horse race between Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND) and Brian Mundubile of the Tonse Alliance (TA), a faction that emerged out of the former ruling Patriotic Front (PF) which lost power to UPND in 2021. Some say the polls would be ‌a referendum on Hichilema's economic record since he took office in 2021. We spoke to Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba, former Vice President of Zambia and former  Zambia's High Commissioner to Canada. He currently serves as the Presidential Special Envoy
