The price of red meat could become expensive for many households in South Africa. This as the country has been battling to contain the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease for several years.

The foot and mouth disease is common among cattle, sheep and goats and is characterised by fever and blister, like sores on the tongue and lips. 

This after one of the country's biggest feed lot in Heidelberg in the Gauteng province, halted production due to an outbreak of the foot and mouth disease at its facilities. Nothando Magudulela reports.
