Civic rights groups in Togo say government has banned protest action that was planned for today. Togolese have been up in arms in demostrations that came weeks after President, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé - who has been president for two decades and whose family has ruled the country for 58 years - was sworn into a new post of President of the Council of Ministers, which has no official term limits. A coalition of 23 Togolese civil rights groups - known as the National Platform for Civic Space and Development Effectiveness say seven people have being killed in protests that began 3 weeks ago.
