A new report by Oxfam reveals a stark rise in inequality across Africa, showing that just four of the continent’s richest billionaires now hold a combined wealth of $57.4 billion, more than the total wealth of 750 million people, or half of Africa’s population.
Titled “Africa’s Inequality Crisis and the Rise of the Super-Rich,” the report attributes this trend to economic and political systems that disproportionately benefit the wealthy, while undermining investment in essential public services such as healthcare, education, and social protection.
