Across Africa, the conversation around wealth taxation is gathering momentum. The urgent need to tax high-net-wealthy individuals to curb inequality and boost public revenue has found support among global leaders and experts.

 Oxfam Africa, in collaboration with the Tax Justice Network Africa, recently hosted a webinar titled, 'Taxing the Rich in Africa'-where notable speakers from finance ministries, tax authorities and advocacy groups came together to discuss how best to tackle this issue.

Oxfam Africa hosts a webinar titled, 'Taxing the Rich in Africa'

The Pentagon has repatriated Ridah Bin Saleh al Yazidi, a 59-year-old Tunisian who was one of the first detainees sent to Guantánamo Bay when it opened on January 11, 2002. Despite never being charged with a crime, Yazidi remained at the detention facility for over two decades due to failed resettlement agreements. He was cleared for transfer more than ten years ago. To help us unpack this story, Peter Ndoro spoke to Channel Africa correspondent in Tunisia, Imen Bliwa.

South Africa's Health Department has yet again cautioned against teeage pregancy. This as teenage girls continue to be counted amongst mothers who gave birth over the festive period. For New Year, a 12-year old from the Eastern Cape province gave birth and she has since been recorded as the youngest mother of the year. An investigation has been initiated similar to action taken in Limpopo which led to the arrest of a man who allegedly impregnated a 13 year-old girl. Over 650 babies were delivered in public health facilities across the country. Meawnhile in Gauteng  MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko officially opened  the newly expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Africa's biggest hospital, the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital located in Johannesburg. Sisi Segalo was there and compiled the following report

This after young girls were reported among the mothers who gave birth in the provinces of the North West, Mpumalanga and a the Eastern Cape province.
