Over a hundred thousand South Africans have joined the stem cell donor registry to help save the lives of those battling blood cancer and blood disorders.
This rapid growth has not only expanded the donor pool in size but also in diversity, with 8 percent Asian, 9 percent Coloured, 38 percent Black, and 45 percent are white donors now represented.
Each new donor increases the chances of a patient finding a matching donor for a stem cell transplant, with the odds currently at 1 in 100 thousand.
