New study finds that synthetic hair could be a health hazard

View descriptionShare

Hair is big business across the globe, and on the African continent in particular,  be it wigs or synthetic fibre used for braiding, there are diverse opportunities.

Synthetic hair made from strands of man-made materials, such as plastic or acrylic are made to closely resemble the look and movement of human hair, But, this fake hair could be a health hazard and carries pesticides and other toxic chemicals.

To discuss this further and share more about the studies conducted on fake hair, Peter Ndoro spoke to Dr Nwanne Dike Ijere Ph.D, Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Health Biology.
