A delegation of health and social services experts from Namibia have met with their counterparts in South Africa to help adopt best practices from each other that can lead to both countries providing quality health care to its citizens. 

The two-day visit was conducted at the Northwest Province of South Africa which is 60 percent rural.

Namibia & SA meet to adopt best health care practices

Mali says that its capital Bamako is under control after insurgents attacked a gendarmerie training school and other areas before dawn on Tuesday, firing gunshots that reverberated around the city.

The capital was tense following the attack, with vigilante groups of youth patrolling the streets.

According to media reporters, it was a cigarette seller, who had been set on fire by youths because he was wearing a bullet belt, making them suspect he was an attacker.

Authorities did not identify who they blamed for the pre-dawn attacks on strategic points in Bamako, but it was a rare case of unrest reaching the capital after years of armed conflict in the hinterlands between government forces and Islamist rebels.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Highveld Region in South Africa says it is taken aback and angered by the total disrespect and impulsive decision taken by SERITI Resources to retrench 1 143 workers.

The union says this is capitalist barbarism at its best and exploitation of poor workers that cannot be tolerated.

The South African coal miner announced it plans to cut the jobs to contain costs due to lower prices and persistent rail bottlenecks.

The privately-owned Seriti is a major coal supplier to South Africa's thermal power stations and also exports some of its output.
