More than 100 dead after flooding in eastern DRC

Tragedy has struck the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where more than 100 people have lost their lives following torrential rains that triggered flash floods and landslides in South Kivu province.

The village of Bushushu in the Kalehe territory was one of the hardest hit, with homes, schools and farmland washed away in an instant.

Dozens are still missing and thousands have been displaced.

Local officials say the true scale of the disaster is only beginning to emerge, as heavy rainfall and poor infrastructure are making it difficult for rescue teams and humanitarian agencies to reach the area. Peter Ndoro spoke to DRC-based journalist Jimmy Shukrani Bakonera…
