A court in Malawi has dropped corruption charges against Vice President Saulos Chilima clearing a legal hurdle over his potential candidacy in next year's presidential election.

Chilima was arrested in 2022 over graft allegations after the country's corruption watchdog alleged he was rewarded for assisting two companies connected to a British businessman to be awarded contracts by the Government.

World Hypertension Day which is marked on the 17th of May each year, is dedicated to highlighting the importance of monitoring blood pressure and bringing global awareness to the one billion people living with high blood pressure worldwide.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is defined as a systolic blood pressure consistently above 140 millimeter  Hectogram and/or diastolic blood pressure consistently above 90 mm Hg. Hypertension is the number one risk factor for heart disease, stroke, renal complications, and premature death.

The Pan African Parliament(PAP) an organ of the African Union was established in 200 to provide a formal platform for African people to participate fully in decision-making processes on matters affecting the continent.

The Parliament says its important for the continent to be informed about its mandate.

South Africa (SA) is gearing to hold its seventh general election in less than two weeks with more political parties contesting than in the 1994 polls.

52 political parties are set to contest in the May 29 poll many newly formed competitors including independent candidates and Umkhonto We Sizwe led by former president Jacob Zuma.
