The Malawian government has announced an immediate ban on maize exports in response to the country’s worsening food crisis. The move, aimed at stabilising local supply and curbing price hikes, comes as more than four million people face hunger following prolonged dry spells.

Authorities say the measure is also intended to protect the livelihoods of millions who rely on maize as their staple food.
