The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) says less than one percent of the population are blood donors in the country. This is due to the burden of disease that the country is facing, particularly HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C, and also due to the fact that people say they are too busy to donate. The organisation was addressing the media in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Wednesday ahead of World Donor Day next Saturday. Sisi Segalo has more.
