Rebel group, M23 , has captured the key town of Masisi, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, following clashes with the army and its Allied militia.
The group has seized vast swathes of mineral rich eastern Congo since 2021, displacing hundreds of thousands of people. The violence comes a year after, it seemed that Angola was making some progress mediating peace talks between President Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, but these broke down last month and an escalation in the fighting is causing thousands more civilians to flee for their lives.
