Kenya has become the first African country to secure landmark climate disaster funding. The 700, 000 dollars in funding comes from the Santiago Network on Loss and Damage, a Switzerland-based United Nations mechanism funded by voluntary contributions from developed countries and the international community, it was established in 2019. Kenya Secures Landmark UN Climate Funding to Support Communities Hit by Disasters

Sudan's war has entered its fourth year, with millions of people displaced and the country facing one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Now, allegations that Sudan's military has used chemical weapons are coming under renewed scrutiny. A New York Times investigation has detailed a dossier containing documents, photographs, videos and intercepted communications that appear to show the development and production of chlorine-based munitions in 2024. Sudan's military rejects the allegations as baseless, while the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says it is seeking clarification. Earlier this year, a France 24 investigation also reported strong evidence of chlorine gas being used as a weapon in Sudan.

Sudan faces renewed scrutiny over alleged chemical weapons use as war enters its fourth year

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, says the past years have been marked by growing number of armed conflicts and diminishing respect for international human rights and humanitarian law. Türk  says there are now 60 wars involving at least one state, which he  says is the highest number since the end of the Second World War. Mozambique's Victory Day celebrations yesterday marked 52 years since the signing of the Lusaka Accord. The 1974 landmark agreement ended the struggle for independence from colonial rule, it was the begining of the triumph for self-determination and sovereignty. The historical significance of the holiday has taken on renewed importance as the country balances honoring its liberation heroes with addressing current security issues, including regional instability in northern areas like Cabo Delgado. Now to discuss this further we are joined by Prof Adriano Nuvungo, Director of the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights in Mozambique
