INTRO:
The High Court in Mombasa, Kenya, has set aside November 6 for the sentencing of self-proclaimed doomsday preacher Paul Mackenzie, and 28 others. On Monday, the court found Mackenzie and his associates guilty of causing the deaths of 190 children and one adult due to starvation. The cult leader was arrested in 2023 following a tip-off, and police later discovered bodies buried in shallow graves in Shakahola Forest in South East Kenya, marking one of the most severe cult-related incidents in recent history. Mackenzie had instructed his followers to allow their children to starve to death in order to meet Jesus before the end of the world. He denied the murder charges, claiming he did not compel his church members to starve, but the court rejected this argument..
