As the world races to cut carbon emissions and embrace renewable energy, coal, one of the oldest fuels, continues to defy predictions of its demise. Global demand hit record highs following energy uncertainty caused by Russia’s war in Ukraine. The debate over the future of coal took prominence on the second day of the Joburg Mining Indaba, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Wednesday.
