The Regional Forum on the International Year of Camelids and Sustainable Livestock Transformation in Africa is underway in Nairobi, Kenya.
The three-day high-level event is co-organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the African Union Inter African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR).
Africa is home to over 80 percent of the world's one-humped camels (dromedaries).
Experts say countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Sudan are central to realizing the potential of this climate-resilient species.
