International Equal Pay Day Highlights Global Gender Pay Gap and Call for Action

View descriptionShare

It's time now for the Friday edition of The Discourse. Today marks International Equal Pay Day, drawing attention to the continuing gap between what women and men earn around the world. Women earn, on average, about 20 percent less than men. The gap is linked to a range of factors, including occupational segregation, unpaid care responsibilities and the way different types of work are valued. So, why does this gap persist, and what can be done to achieve equal pay for work of equal value? From Dublin in Ireland, we spoke to Emanuela Pozzan, Senior Gender Equality Specialist at the International Labour Organization.
