A landmark human rights dialogue has wrapped up in Gaborone, Botswana, where governments, civil society, youth leaders, and regional institutions gathered to chart a new course for human rights across Southern Africa. The Southern Africa Dialogue on Reimagining the Future of Human Rights in Africa ran from the 26th to the 28th of August, convened by the Open Society Foundations alongside the UN's regional human rights office, Botswana's National Assembly, the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, and the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions. It's the first in a series of regional consultations that will feed into a continental gathering later this year - and it comes as Africa marks 40 years since the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights came into force.
