The South African National Defence Force says the first group of its soldiers who were deployed in the Eastern DRC will return home on Friday.
The were part of a SADC peace mission. The troops were sent two years ago to support the Congolese army fight the M23 rebels and other grouping, which had seized control of large parts of mineral-rich eastern DRC.
SADC withdrew the mission after the ambush in Goma city by the rebels, that killed 19 soldiers from South Africa, Malawi and Tanzania.
