Experts urge stronger action to tackle gambling harm as online betting grows across Africa

Guinea has been the first Ecowas member state to opt out of the bloc's single currency. The 12 member West African economic bloc is set to launch the monetary union and eco currency in July next year. Guinea has decided retain its national currency, the Guinean franc. Ecowas says it was leaning towards a phased rollout, with countries meeting convergence criteria such as inflation, debt, and monetary stability joining first. The bloc is expected to meet again in December to resolve outstanding issues, particularly around the future central bank.  Now to discuss this further we are joined by Paul Ejime, Global affairs analyst with focus on West Africa

Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika is in South Africa. It is believed that president Mutharika has travelled to South Africa for a private visit. This is his fourth undisclosed journey to South Africa since taking office in late 2025. An official announcement signed by Chief Secretary to the Government confirmed the departure but withheld details regarding the trip's duration or specific purpose. We spoke to Channel Africa Correspondent in Malawi, George Mhango

While today's guests are from South Africa, the issues they're addressing resonate across Africa, where communities continue to grapple with violence, addiction and the need for stronger prevention and advocacy.  As many countries across Africa work to combat gender-based violence, advocates say lasting progress will depend on prevention, community action and stronger support for survivors.  Peter Ndoro spoke to Dr Lesley Ann Foster, Founder and Executive Director of Masimanyane Women's Rights International, a South African non-governmental organisation that works to prevent gender-based violence and advance the rights of women and girls.
