South African political parties are in the midst of crucial negotiations to form a government of coalition. It is at this time then that their policies are under the spotlight. Understanding how their policies converge and diverge on key issues is essential for both the public as well as the parties involved in negotiations. Next week, parliament is expected to meet to elect the President of the Republic and Speaker of parliament.
The Policy Innovation Lab at Stellenbosch University's School for Data Science and Computational Thinking has released a detailed comparison and possible coalition of four of the parties that received the most votes in South Africa, the African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party manifestos.
Prof. Willem Fourie, head of the Policy Innovation Lab spoke to Aurelie Kalenga to share more.
