Cameroon opposition condemns suspension of party led by Issa Tchiroma Bakary amid shrinking democratic space
Cameroonian opposition parties have strongly condemned the government's three-month nationwide suspension of the National Salvation Front of Cameroon (FSNC), the political party led by prominent opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary. The suspension, issued last week by Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, blocks all party activities until late January 2027 under allegations of inciting violence and threatening public order following the disputed October 2025 presidential election. Opposition groups in the country have unified in denouncing the ban as a politically motivated manoeuvre designed to shrink democratic space, and disrupt the opposition ahead of the upcoming local and parliamentary elections in early 2027.To discuss this further we are now joined by Paul Anchang, Cameroon based political analyst
