Burundi is set to hold legislative and district election next month on the 5th of June. For the first time, these elections will be held separately from presidential elections, slated for 2027.

The Burundian Constitution, which was revised in 2018, now includes a change in the length of the presidential term, from five to seven years.

The campaign for legislative and district elections is expected to kick-off today.

The Global Terrorism Index has revealed that deaths from terrorism in the West surged by 280 per cent in 2025, contrasting starkly against a global decline of 28 per cent. Several civil society organisations led by the Aids Healthcare Foundation gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa, to call on the European Union( EU) to stop blocking Health Equity ahead of the final negotiations of the World Health Organisation Pandemic Treaty. They say the treaty cannot move forward until the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing ( PABS) Annex is finalized.   The Annex determines how pathogen samples are shared and whether all countries benefit from vaccines.
