Leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa the original (BRICS) members have gathered in Kazan, Russia, starting for the group's annual summit, which now includes an expanded membership.
This marks the first BRICS summit since Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE joined earlier this year.
As the current BRICS president, Russia has also invited more than two dozen other countries that have shown interest in joining the group for the inaugural "BRICS+ summit."
To discuss what we can expect from this summit, Peter Ndoro spoke to Sanusha Naidu, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Dialogue.
