The Botswana nation goes to the poll late next month to determine the composition of the 13th Parliament as well as the country's local councils.

Botswana elections are known for being peaceful and calm, however this year's vote comes with dissatisfaction from the opposition parties who have criticized the country's incomplete constitutional review process and lack of state funding, BUT this morning we put a spotlight on the participation of women in the politics of Boswana.

Botswana elections: What is behind the low political participation of women in Botswana?

Statistics South Africa recently released its latest Victims of Crime (VoC) survey, revealing a significant drop in hijacking incidents over the past year.

However, the current figures remain alarmingly high.

South Africa's official crime statistics are based on incidents or crimes reported at police stations and crimes discovered by the police.

This means the data can only reflect the crimes that go through the official process, leaving many crimes unaccounted for.

StatsSA release VoC survey revealing significant drop in hijacking incidents in 2023

The private sector in South Africa is still lacking behind in terms of gender equality especially when it comes to the representation of vulnerable groups such as women and persons with disability in leadership positions.  

This is according to the country's Commission for Gender Equality (CGE).  

The commission says there is a need for a shift in legislation to ensure that the private sector is not only fined but some directors who are against transformation are disqualified.  

The commission is hosting a two-day conference which begun on Wednesday to evaluate the strides made and challenges which hinder the attainment of gender equality in South Africa.
