Authorities in Angola say the death toll from violent protests against a fuel price hike has risen to 22.

The unrest broke out earlier this week, when minibus taxi associations launched a three-day strike against a government's decision to increase the price of diesel by one-third.

Looting, vandalism and clashes with police started in the capital Luanda, then spread to other provinces.

President Joao Lourenco's cabinet met on Wednesday to discuss the impact of the demonstrations.
