As artificial intelligence becomes an increasingly common source of advice on stress, anxiety and depression, questions are growing about the role chatbots should play in mental healthcare. While AI may offer convenience and round-the-clock support, it also raises concerns about safety and accountability. In Africa, where many countries face a shortage of mental health professionals, the technology may appear to help bridge the gap.
