Africa is by the end of 2024 set to launch its Crediting Rating facility, Africa Crediting Rating Agency, ACRA, the Lusaka two-day Retreat on its operationalisation has been informed.

The Retreat under the auspices of the African Peer Review Mechanism, APRM, and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa has closed with various recommendations being made on how the African Agency will operate.

Africa to launch its Crediting Rating facility

South Africa's (SA) Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Alvin Botes, has provided clarity on the nation's foreign policy at a joint symposium with the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).

The event, held on Monday afternoon in Sandton, Johannesburg, focused on outlining South Africa's foreign policy priorities and addressing key diplomatic challenges. It also explored the sustainability of the country's regional security efforts, particularly in peacekeeping operations.

In a significant move toward national reconciliation, Mozambican President Daniel Chapo met with opposition leader and former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane on March 23, 2025, in Maputo.

According to the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Report 2024, approximately 8.2 million people were newly diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) in 2023-the highest number recorded since WHO began global TB monitoring in 1995.

This marks a significant increase from the 7.5 million cases reported in 2022, positioning TB once again as the leading infectious disease killer in 2023, surpassing COVID-19. In the African region, TB continues to pose a substantial public health challenge, accounting for 23% of new cases and 31% of TB-related deaths globally.

We are joined by Dr. Jean-Louis Abena Foe, Technical Officer for TB at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, to provide deeper insights into the TB situation in Africa.
