There are indications that this year's October Presidential elections in Cameroon, may be the most contested in the country's history.

The central African states Elections Management Body, ELECAM, reports that a record over 8.3 million people will vote in the elections, representing a significant jump from the 6.5 million registered voters in previous elections. 

Moki Kindzeka reports from Yaounde that another surprise is that young people make up approximately 70% of all registered voters.

As South Africans roll up their sleeves for Mandela Day today, a Johannesburg-based child and youth care centre is urging citizens to rethink how they give back. Oasis Haven says the annual day of service has the potential to drive real change - but only if support meets actual needs. The centre highlights that while many volunteers donate goods or time, the biggest gap remains funding for operational costs. They believe Mandela Day can be more than symbolic, if contributions are aligned with what non-profits genuinely require to sustain their work. An organisaton promoting social justice and economic empowerment in South Africa, Progressive Forces says that there are still questions surrounding the death of former Zambian president Edgar Lungu in Johannesburg last month. Speaking at a media briefing in Johannesburg, its president Mthetho Nqukayitobi accused the South African government of silence, secrecy, and failing to follow proper diplomatic and legal protocols. Lungu's burial has since been halted. Michael Mbewe hs more.
