South African rugby legend, Tendai Mtawarira, also known as 'The Beast' is now the new Regional Ambassador for Eastern and Southern Africa for the UN International Children's Emergency Fund, UNICEF.

The announcement follows his travel with the organization to Mukuru, an informal settlement in Kenya's capital city of Nairobi, where he spoke with young girls and boys about among other things, the challenges with learning in the COVID-19 era.

The South African Medical Association- has warned that the country is likely to get monkeypox and should therefore prepare to respond immediately.

As cases of monkeypox spread in the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia, the World Health Organisation says 50 more suspected cases are being investigated.

Meanwhile, African journalists have slammed media agencies using images of Black people alongside stories of the monkeypox outbreak in predominantly white countries.

The global community is today honouring nurses for their critical contribution to society as caregivers. International Nurses Day, which is annually observed on the 12th of May also coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The day also serves as an opportunity to highlight challenges that still persist in the nursing profession. This year's theme of commemoration is "Nurses A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health". Josiah Machialo, Nursing Assistant Manager at Helen Joseph Hospital in South Africa tells us about his nursing journey
